FCS ADA Announces Academic Team

CLEVELAND – The Football Championship Subdivision Athletics Directors Association (FCS ADA) has named 57 student-athletes to the 28th Annual Academic All-Star Team.

The Patriot League led the way with 10 student-athletes placed on the 2025 All-Star Team, along with the Coastal Athletic Association with nine student-athletes, the Big Sky Conference with eight student-athletes and the Missouri Valley Football Conference with seven recipients.

Current FCS ADA President, Kurt McGuffin, director of athletics at University of Tennessee Martin, stated, "This year's honorees exemplify what it means to be complete student-athletes, excelling both in the classroom and in competition. It is always rewarding to recognize outstanding individuals who embody the values and standards of our division, and this year's selections are no exception. We extend our sincere congratulations to all nominees and especially to those receiving this well-deserved recognition."

Football players from all Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) institutions are eligible for the award. Each of the nominees were required to have a minimum grade point average of 3.20 (on a 4.00 scale) in undergraduate or graduate study and have been a starter or key player with legitimate athletics credentials. They must have reached their second year of athletics and academic standing at the nominated institution and have completed a minimum of one full academic year at the nominated institution. They also must have participated in 50 percent of the games played at their designated position.

Additionally, from the 2025 Academic All-Star Team, 12 finalists were selected for the 25th Annual FCS ADA $5,000 Postgraduate Scholarship. Two student-athletes will receive postgraduate scholarships.

A special Review Committee of FCS athletics directors were responsible for selecting the 2025 Academic All-Star Team and FCS ADA Postgraduate Scholarship finalists. This year's Review Committee consisted of: Mark Benson, Albany; Bill Chaves, North Dakota; Sherryta Freeman, Lafayette; Kurt McGuffin, UT Martin (Chair); and Skip Perkins, North Carolina Central.
