CLEVELAND – Almost 36 points separate the DI leader,
North Carolina, and second place
Stanford in the first winter Learfield Directors' Cup standings. The Tar Heels lead with 781.50 total points, while Stanford tallied 746.25 points.
North Carolina had a strong showing in the winter championships to date with two top 10 finishes (women's basketball and men's fencing). Nine total teams have earned the Tar Heels points to date.
Stanford ended the fall season in second and maintained that spot for the winter, tallying points in six of 13 sports scored through last weekend. The Cardinal recorded a second-place finish in women's swimming & diving, while also placing sixth in men's wrestling.
Rounding out the top five is
Virginia in third with 696.75 points,
Princeton in fourth with 679.50 points and
Ohio State in fifth with 664.00 points.
Virginia has scored in six sports to date, including a national title in women's swimming and diving. Princeton has scored in nine sports to date, including top 10 finishes in women's ice hockey, and men's and women's fencing. Ohio State recorded top 10 finishes in women's ice hockey, men's wrestling, and men's and women's fencing, while also scoring points in five other sports.

Big 10 leads all Division I conferences with 10 institutions in the top-25 – Ohio State (5
