Texas Captures Fourth Learfield Directors’ Cup Title

CLEVELAND
– For the first time in the Learfield Directors' Cup history, a mere 4.25 points separated first, second and third place in the final standings, with the University of Texas taking home its fourth crown with 1255.25 total points, ahead of USC with 1253.75 and Stanford at 1251.00 total points.

Texas claimed two national titles – men's swimming and diving and softball – while also tallying five third-place finishes (football, women's basketball, women's swimming and diving, women's rowing and men's tennis). Overall, Texas scored in all five countable sports, along with 14 additional total sports. Overall, two sports were omitted from the final standings, men's cross country and women's indoor track and field.

USC finished runner-up with 1,253.75 points and captured a pair of national championships – men's indoor track and field and men's outdoor track and field. In addition, the Trojans earned runner-up finishes in men's water polo, women's outdoor track and field and women's water polo. USC scored in 4 of 5 countable sports, along with 14 additional sports.

Stanford finished third with 1,251.00 points and tallied 14 top-10 finishes among the among 16 total sports that they scored in, including a national championship in women's rowing and women's water polo. The following scores were removed – men's water polo, women's gymnastics, men's wrestling, men's golf, women's lacrosse, softball and women's beach volleyball – due to the maximum additional sports to be counted is 14.

Rounding out the top five is North Carolina in fourth with 1,195.25 points, including national titles in two women's sports - soccer and lacrosse. The Tar Heels also scored in all five countable sports. UCLA finished fifth with 1,149.00 points, including a national championship in men's water polo and a pair of runner-up finishes – women's gymnastics and men's volleyball.

As a reminder, an additional countable sport was added on Division I side for this year, bringing the total number of countable sports to five (5). On the women's side, soccer joins basketball and volleyball, while the men's side will continue to be baseball and basketball. Overall, 19 total sports are counted for the final standings including the five countable sports, and the next highest 14 (max.) sports scored for each institution, regardless of gender.

CONFERENCE
At the conference level, the SEC leads all Division I conferences with 11 institutions in the top 25 – Texas (1st), Tennessee (6th), Florida (7th), Oklahoma (9th), Arkansas (11th), Georgia (14th), Texas A&M (15th), LSU (17th), Auburn (19th), Alabama (22nd) and South Carolina (23rd).
