CLEVELANDÂ - The Minority Opportunities Athletic Association (MOAA) is pleased to announce Devon Hendricks, deputy athletics director for external operations at Emory University as the 2025Â Rudy Keeling Scholarship recipient.
Hendricks will receive a $2,500 postgraduate scholarship toward an advanced degree with the intention of furthering administrative pursuits within the intercollegiate athletics industry. The scholarship will be presented with financial assistance of sponsors, Bob McCloskey Insurance and the NCAA.Â
As the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Commissioner, Rudy Keeling was the first African-American ever to head a major sports conference, a position he held from 2007 until his retirement in January 2013. He was also a former member of the MOAA Board of Directors. Candidates for the scholarship were reviewed by the MOAA leadership and members of the Keeling Family.Â
Devon Hendricks has been serving as the Deputy Athletics Director for External Operations at Emory University Athletics and Recreation since November 2022. In her role, she oversees events and marketing, facilities, and athletic communications, and acts as a liaison to campus partners including public affairs, communications, marketing, licensing, and trademark. She also provides oversight for selected intercollegiate programs.
Devon joined Emory after a long and distinguished career at the University of Texas, where she held various roles since August 2000. Most recently, she served as the Assistant Athletics Director for Events and Operations, overseeing budgets and events for multiple sports, including swimming & diving, basketball, volleyball, and tennis. She also managed NCAA and Big 12 Championships for tennis, volleyball, and women's basketball, and was honored with the Rising Executives Commitment Award by Women Leaders in College Sports.
Devon earned her bachelor's degrees in Travel Tourism Hospitality and Sport Management from Temple University in 2000 and a Master's in Education in Higher Education Administration from the University of Texas in 2012. She is currently pursuing her Juris Masters from Emory University Law, with an anticipated graduation date of Spring 2026.
