Name:Â Abby Roberts
Position/Institution:Â Trademarks & Licensing Manager, University of Utah
Â
Number of years in Licensing Industry:Â .75
What are three words that best describe you?
Motivated, reliable, attentive
What is the most important skill you have developed in your career? My ability to "read the room" in (almost) any scenario!
Â
In what ways have you grown as a professional through your association with ICLA? ICLA has provided me with the opportunity to meet people in this industry with roles similar to mine- and it's also given me the chance to connect with licensees & other professionals. Also, I cannot overemphasize my appreciation for the number of resources that are available to me through ICLA. From the discussion boards to the ever-growing library, I've been able to gain crucial insight & knowledge.
What's one ICLA resource that you and your colleagues use the most that has helped you? The webinars/Zoom recordings have been great for me.
Who or what inspires you in your career? My parents. I will often that say it's a shame they only had one child, because they are TRULY the best people on the planet. I'm very lucky to have grown up with their examples of unbeatable work-ethic, generosity, and resilience.
What was your first job? Model at Hollister Co- at the time, I truly felt like I landed my "dream job"! Important for both context and humility: Model = part time employee that worked on the sales floor.
When you started your current job, what most surprised you? The spirit of community & hospitality within the licensing industry is something I am consistently impressed by and very grateful for.
What is your greatest achievement (personal or professional)? My son, Ari. One thing I've always been 100% sure of in life is my desire to become a mom. Ari really is a dream come true- the coolest, smartest little dude with the absolute sweetest personality... his daycare teachers sometimes disagree.
What are your 3 favorite songs? The entire Pitch Perfect soundtrack.
What talent do you wish you had? Skateboarding. My fellow millennials might remember the MTV show MADE from the early 2000's. I always dreamed of going on that show to be "made" into a skateboarder.
