CLEVELAND – Over 80 points separate the DI leader,
North Carolina, and second place
Stanford in the first winter Learfield Directors' Cup standings. The Tar Heels lead with 843.25 total points, while Stanford tallied 760.50 points.
North Carolina had a strong showing in the winter championships to date with two top 10 finishes (women's basketball and men's indoor track and field). Eight total teams have earned the Tar Heels points to date.
Stanford ended the fall season in second and maintained that spot for the winter, tallying points in five of 11 sports scored through last weekend. The Cardinal recorded a second-place finish in women's swimming & diving, while also placing eighth in men's swimming and diving.
Rounding out the top five is
Wisconsin in third with 693.70 points,
Ohio State in fourth with 683.75 points and
USC in fifth with 642.00 points.
Wisconsin has scored in seven sports to date, including a national title in women's ice hockey. Ohio State has scored in six sports to date, including top 10 finishes in women's ice hockey, men's wrestling and fencing. USC recorded top 10 finishes in men's and women's indoor track and field, and women's basketball, while also scoring points in two other sports (men's and women's swimming and diving).
Scoring Structure Update for 2024-25: New this year, an additional countable sport has been added on the Division I side, bringing the total number of countable sports to five (5). On the women's side, soccer joins basketball and volleyball, while the men's side will continue to be baseball and basketball. Overall, 19 total sports are counted for the final standings in June, including the five countable sports, and the next highest 14 (max.) sports scored for each institution, regardless of gender.
CONFERENCE
At the conference level, the
SEC leads all Division I conferences with nine institutions in the top-25 – Texas (6
th), Tennessee (10
th), Alabama (13
th), Arkansas (17
th), Florida (18
th), Kentucky (20
th), Ole Miss (22
nd), Georgia (23
rd) and Texas A&M (25
th).
