CLEVELAND - The National Alliance of Two-Year College Athletic Administrators (NATYCAA) announced the renaming of its prestigious Daktronics Cup to the Ron Case Cup presented by Daktronics. Case, who served as NATYCAA president in 1999-00, and was director of athletics at Rowan College at Gloucester County for 25 years, stewarded the Cup program from its 2004 inception through June 2024.
Â
"Daktronics is proud to honor Ron Case's extraordinary legacy in two-year college athletics through the renaming of this prestigious award," stated Daktronics National Sales Manager Tom Coughlin. "For over two decades, Ron's visionary leadership helped establish and grow this program into what it is today - a true celebration of excellence across two-year college athletics. We're excited to continue our partnership with NATYCAA and carry forward Ron's mission of recognizing and elevating the achievements of these outstanding athletic programs through the Ron Case Cup presented by Daktronics."
Â
The Cup recognizes excellence in two-year college athletics through championship competition across all sports in the following three categories – NJCAA Scholarship, NJCAA non-Scholarship and the State Associations (3C2A & NWAC). Case spearheaded the initiative to give back to the two-year college athletics community and NATYCAA.
Â
In its early years, Case collaborated with John Stauff, Jack Martin and the late Terry Ryan from Pepsi to secure initial sponsorship of the program off the ground. For the past six years, Daktronics and Tom Coughlin have elevated the Cup's prominence, recently renewing their commitment for another three years.Â
Â
"Having this award named in my honor was something I never dreamed of, but will cherish forever," stated Case. "I'm grateful to the NATYCAA Executive Committee for making this honor possible and all the athletics administrators that helped support me in this program over the past three decades."Â
Â
"Ron's dedication and tireless efforts made this program what it is today," said Joe Jennum, dean/athletic director at Mt. San Antonio College and Aaron Bouyea, Monroe Community College director of athletics. "We're forever grateful for his contributions to two-year college athletics, both during his tenure as AD and into retirement. We thank Daktronics for their continued support and look forward to the program's next chapter as the 'Ron Case Cup presented by Daktronics.'"
