CLEVELAND - The National Association of Collegiate Marketing Administrators (NACMA) has announced Utah Valley University (UVU) as its 2024 Unity Award recipient.
"We are honored and humbled to be recognized with the 2024 NACMA Unity Award for our collaborative efforts to promote diversity and inclusion at athletic events," said UVU Assistant AD / Marketing Kameron Dearing. "Year after year, this initiative has grown, involving a variety of campus and community organizations, thereby extending the reach of UVU Athletics and its support for diverse causes. This accolade would not have been possible without the steadfast support of President Tuminez and her cabinet, the UVU Athletics leadership team, our various campus and community partners, and most importantly, the student-athletes, students, and community members for whom we host these events."
The Diversity and Inclusion campaign profoundly impacted both the campus and community. It raised awareness of UVU's diverse demographics and fostered a sense of belonging. The impact extends beyond the events, as the relationships built with various organizations have laid a foundation for future initiatives. These relationships, cultivated over years of collaboration, have strengthened the UVU community and hold potential for driving further diversity and inclusion efforts.
In a vibrant celebration of culture and community, UVU Athletics, in partnership with the UVU Native American Initiative, hosted an memorable Native American Heritage Night at a men's basketball game. This event was not just a game, but a rich tapestry of experiences that celebrated Utah's Indigenous community and their dynamic culture. In its third year, the Unity Award recognizes the efforts in creating a marketing campaign or initiative that is associated with diversity and inclusion. Utah Valley was selected for the 2024 Unity Award from a group of three finalists, including University of Nevada and Virginia Tech.
"On behalf of NACMA, I am honored to recognize Utah Valley University with the 2024 Unity Award," said NACMA President Brad Wurthman. "UVU's Diversity and Inclusion campaign raised awareness of the diverse demographics and fostered a sense of belonging . I am thrilled that NACMA is able to spotlight the work of the team at Utah Valley for their efforts in creating a greater good for their students and community."
Utah Valley University was announced as the winner during the 2024 NACMA Convention on June 10.
