CLEVELAND – The 
Division I Football Championship Subdivision Athletics Directors Association (FCS ADA), in coordination with the 15 FCS conference offices, has selected 
Eric Barriere, quarterback at Eastern Washington University, and 
Troy Andersen, linebacker at Montana State University, as the 2021 FCS ADA Offensive and Defensive Players of the Year, respectively. This marks the second-straight year Barriere has been named the FCS ADA Offensive Player of the Year.
Barriere and Andersen will be recognized on Saturday, Jan. 8, at the Division I FCS Championship at Toyota Stadium in Frisco, Texas. Both honorees will be presented with a plaque by FCS ADA First Vice President, Tom Michael, Director of Athletics at Eastern Illinois University, during an on-field presentation.
Here is how Barriere and Andersen garnered FCS ADA Offensive and Defensive Player of the Year honors:
QB Eric Barriere, Senior, Eastern Washington University
Throwing for 4,242 yards and 40 touchdowns during the regular season, Barriere set the Big Sky career record for total offense, passing yards, and passing TDs. He tallied five games with over 400 yards passing and three games with over 500 yards passing this season. This includes a 600-yard passing performance where he led EWU to a 71-21 victory over Idaho with seven passing TDs and a rushing TD. For the second-straight year, Berriere was named the Big Sky Offensive Player of the Year and a Walter Payton Award Finalist. Barriere also earned a league-record six Big Sky Offensive Player of the Week honors this season while leading the Eagles to a 9-2 regular-season record and a berth in the FCS Playoffs.
LB Troy Andersen, Senior, Montana State University
With 9.5 tackles for loss, three sacks, two interceptions and an average of 10.4 tackles per game during the regular season, Andersen is a finalist for the 2021 Buck Buchanan Award and became the first Montana State player since 2013 to be named Big Sky Defensive Player of the Year. He was also named one of 13 finalists among all divisions of the NCAA and the NAIA for the 2021 William V. Campbell Trophy, college football's premier scholar-athlete award. Andersen led MSU to a 9-2 regular-season record and its first national championship appearance since 1984.
