In addition, I live in Catalina Arizona (north of Tucson) with my wife Dianne and dog Maddy. I have three adult children, Dustin, Christina and Alex and three grandchildren, Luke, Cruz and Jackson.
Career Highlights? I served 42 years as a Faculty member at Phoenix College, 17 of which I served as Director of Athletics. During that time I served as President of several professional organizations including the Phoenix College Faculty Association, National Alliance of Two Year College Athletic Administrators (NATYCAA), Arizona Community College Athletics Association (ACCAC), Western State Football League (WSFL), and the Arizona Emergency Paramedic Association.
Â
In 2004 I was awarded the honor of Athletic Director of the Year by the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and in 2007 was acknowledged by the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) with its prestigious Loyalty Award. In 2009 I was named an Exemplary Leader at the International Chair Academy Leadership Conference, the same year the National Alliance of Two Year College Athletic Administrators (NATYCAA) honored me with their highest professional award, the L. William Miller Award recognizing athletics administration excellence at the two year level.
Advice to Current Athletics Administrators? Student success first! Develop exemplary skills as a manager of people. Employee engagement is critical to the success of an athletics department.
Favorite College/Professional Sports Teams? Arizona State University
Favorite Retired Activity? Golfing and spending time with my grandchildren.Â
Favorite Memory from NATYCAA events? The people!! It was always about the people. The annual Convention and the mid-year executive committee meetings gave me an opportunity to build strong relationships with exceptional people, who were pretty good at their job as well.
