Where Are You Now? Still living in Levelland, Texas

Career Highlights? 45 years as a coach and AD—33 years in the NJCAA— I served as Asst. Region Director, Region Director, Vice President, and President. I also served on many committees and chaired the Men's Golf Committee for many years

I have hosted NJCAA national championships in Marathon, Half Marathon, Outdoor Track and Field, and Golf (men only) for Division I men. I also served as Chairman for the Division I Women's National Basketball Championship in 2017, 2018, and 2019.

I am a member of the Western Junior College Athletic Conference and the NJCAA Golf Coaches Hall of Fame and I have been a member of NATYCAA since the second year of existence and was chosen as the L. William Miller award recipient in 2012. In addition, I received the NACDA Athletics Director of the Year from the west in 2005-06 and 2009-2010.

Advice to Current Athletics Administrators? Set your philosophy and hire coaches that believe in the same. Always reassess, evaluate, be open to change, and never stop learning. Be sure to become involved with a professional organization, like NACDA and NATYCAA that provide an opportunity to learn and grow.

Favorite College/Professional Sports Teams? I always tempered my fan emotions by only being passionate about the one that pays my salary. However, I become fans of local college teams of which I have a connection. This being mostly Texas schools, especially Texas Tech.

On the professional level, I admire teams I feel have great organizations like the San Antonio Spurs, Golden State Warriors, the Dallas Cowboys and the New England Patriots. I am not a big baseball fan but do cheer for the two Texas organizations. My biggest sports interest is the PGA Tour where players earn as they play and relish the history of the game.

Favorite Retired Activity? I love to fish and play golf. I spend a lot of time in Port Arkansas on the Texas coast., but still travel and support the South Plains College Texans and Lady Texans.

My wife and I love to travel. Since retirement, we have visited many places in the United States as well as Italy, Ireland, Scotland, England,Germany, and France.

Favorite Memory from NATYCAA Events? I loved mingling and making friends with people from all parts of the country. Learning that our interests and concerns were often the same and understanding the value of those that were not. I made some lifelong friends with whom I want to stay in touch with.

We've had many special times over the years. Many experiences at Marco and the two times we pulled a 15 foot cooker to Dallas (400 miles) to feed the entire group barbecue. Mostly, looking back, the new friends are the finest memories!
