CLEVELAND - The
Division I Football Championship Subdivision Athletics Directors Association (FCS ADA), in coordination with the 13 FCS conference offices, has announced the 2018 Offensive and Defensive Players of the Year.
The FCS ADA has selected
Devlin Hodges, quarterback at Samford University and Southeast Missouri State University's inside linebacker
Zach Hall as the 2018 FCS ADA Offensive and Defensive Players of the Year respectively.
Hall and Hodges will be recognized on
Saturday, January 5, at the 2018 Division I FCS Championship at Toyota Stadium in Frisco, Texas. Both honorees will be presented with a plaque by current FCS ADA President and Director of Athletics at Bryant University,
Bill Smith, during an on-field presentation.
Here is how Hodges and Hall garnered FCS ADA Offensive and Defensive Players of the Year honors:
QB Devlin Hodges, Senior, Samford University
A two-time Walter Payton Award finalist, Hodges was named the Southern Conference Offensive Player of the Year for the third consecutive time in 2018. The Kimberly, Alabama native led all FCS quarterbacks in passing yards (4,283), passing yards per game (389.4) and total offense with 417.9 yards per contest. A three-time All-SoCon honoree, Hodges holds 15 conference records and has climbed to the top of the Samford record book in over 20 different categories. During his senior campaign, Hodges compiled six 400-yard games including a conference record 562-yard outing back in October. He owns the FCS career records for passing yards with 14,585, completions (1,310) and attempts (1,896) and finished second in total offense with 15,601 total yards from scrimmage. He recently became a three-time AFCA All-America honoree, after receiving 2018 AFCA First Team All-America laurels.
ILB Zach Hall, Junior, Southeast Missouri State University
Named the 2018 Ohio Valley Conference Defensive Player of the Year, Hall led the FCS with 168 total tackles and is second in tackles per game (12.9). The junior, Louisville, Kentucky native, recorded a season-best 22 tackles in the 2018 lid-lifter against Arkansas State and tallied double-digit tackles in nine of 11 games, including five performances with 15 or more tackles. Hall anchored a Southeast Missouri defense that ranked first in the FCS in turnover margin (+2.09/game), turnovers gained (31) and passes intercepted (21), while helping to guide the Redhawks to the second playoff berth in program history. During the 2018 campaign, Hall recorded four interceptions, forced four fumbles, ranking 10th nationally (0.36/game), and recovered two fumbles. Hall also finished the year with 11.0 tackles for loss, 2.0 sacks, a pass breakup, six quarterback hits, a blocked kick and recorded a safety en route to his first AFCA All-America selection.
