ASSISTANT ATHLETIC DIRECTOR
(12-Month Academic Administrator 50% Position)
THE POSITION
Under the direction of the Dean of Student Affairs, Physical Education/Athletics and the Athletic Director, the Assistant Athletic Director will coordinate and administer intercollegiate athletic programs at Long Beach City College.
REPRESENTATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES
- Administer, direct and supervise all aspects of the athletic programs as they relate to facilities, schedules, athlete eligibility, physical examinations, equipment, transportation, and insurance. Assure game supervision and management of home athletic contests.
- Assure compliance with all laws, rules and regulations associated with national, state, and conference codes. Prepare paperwork for and conduct compliance meetings with coaches.
- Recommend for hire, supervise, and evaluate head coaches, assistant coaches, athletic training personnel, office staff, sports information specialists, or other personnel associated with athletics. Coordinating all personnel matters with Human Resources.
- Develop, allocate, and monitor the Associated Student Body budgets associated with athletic teams. Assist coaches with budgetary compliance. Approve and direct the purchase of equipment, supplies, and materials connected with assigned programs.
- Promote athletic programs throughout the college and within the community. Participate with appropriate booster groups, student groups, community groups, and college committees.
- Coordinate Hall of Champions, Foundation Athletic Associates, and other fundraising activities.
- Assure continuity, equity, and compliance with all sports offerings, including preparing appropriate national, state and local reports related to athletics. These reports include the Equity in Athletics Disclosure Act, Title IX compliance and CCCAA Form R4, as well as any other related conference or college program reviews.
- Coordinate with other segments of the campus to promote and advance the mission of the Student-Athlete Success Center.
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum:
- Master's degree from an accredited institution, or possession of a valid California Community College Supervisory Credential, AND
- One year of formal training, internship, or leadership experience reasonably related to the administrative assignment, AND
- Evidence of sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
Desirable Qualifications:
- Two years of recent experience directing, coordinating, and administering college, high school, or community sports programs.
- Experience promoting athletic programs.
- Demonstrated knowledge of the laws, rules, regulations and codes associated with community college athletic programs.
- Experience developing, allocating, and monitoring budgets associated with athletic programs.
- Evidence of an ability to challenge and motivate staff.
- Evidence of an ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with a wide range of constituencies.
- Demonstrated commitment to shared governance, consensus building, and team approach to management.
- Experience supervising and evaluating personnel.
- Ability to utilize computers and other forms of advanced technology.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT This is a 50%, twelve-month position for the academic year with an annual salary range of $36,558 - $44,442; Range 14 on the Management Team Salary Schedule*. The District provides medical, dental, and vision insurance for the employee and eligible dependents and life insurance for the employee. Benefits also include 21 vacation days and 5 management leave days.
Position is subject to 4 furlough days per year through June 30, 2012. The District reserves the right to extend, increase or decrease the furlough and/or implement additional pay reductions, during the term of the contract, if imposed by the Board.

SELECTION PROCEDURE 1. Applications will be screened to determine which applicants meet the minimum qualifications as stated in the job announcement.
