The NAADD Executive Committee has announced that applications for its mentor program are now being accepted. One of the Executive Committee's goals is to maximize the inclusion of all athletics fundraising personnel, by creating an opportunity for NAADD members to develop a mentor-mentee relationship with a member of the NAADD Executive Committee.
Bobby Purcell has served in a number of capacities since joining the NC State athletics department in 1981. He was Executive Director of the Wolfpack Club from 1991 until he retired in 2020 and in July of 2020, he was named a Special Assistant to Athletics Director Boo Corrigan. Purcell has been a champion for mentoring fundraisers on his campus and around the nation his entire career. Purcell's influence is widespread in college athletics, as 26 former staff members serve at other universities, including 1Â athletic director: Jimmy Bass at UNC-Wilmington. This continued focus on broadening the learning opportunities for the entire membership will allow our organization and our campuses to draw on the power of fresh ideas and perspectives. Purcell served as NAADD President in 2004-05, and was named the 2007 NAADD Fundraiser of the Year and 2014 NAADD Lifetime Achievement honoree.
"Serving as a mentee in the Bobby Purcell Mentoring Program over the past year has been a truly transformative experience," said Precious Birdsong, a Bobby Purcell Mentor Program participant. "I am deeply grateful for the relationship my mentor, Jennifer Montgomery, and I have built, and for the intentional guidance, time, and unwavering support she has invested in my personal and professional growth. The opportunity to connect with like-minded peers across the industry has been incredibly valuable, allowing us to expand our networks and build meaningful relationships within the ever-evolving landscape of college athletics. I would wholeheartedly encourage any administrator to apply and participate in the Bobby Purcell Mentoring Program. As I continue advancing my career, I am sincerely thankful to NACDA and NAADD leadership for creating opportunities that empower us to grow, thrive, and strive for excellence."
"Participating as a mentee in the Bobby Purcell Mentoring Program has been one of the most impactful experiences of my career," said Daniel Wray, a Bobby Purcell Mentor Program participant. "The opportunity to grow as both a person and as a professional under the guidance of my mentor, Matt Borman, has been incredibly fulfilling, and I will forever be grateful for his kindness, honesty, and willingness to help me along my professional journey. Matt has become a trusted advocate and friend, and I am thankful that the Bobby Purcell Mentoring Program allows the space for these types of relationships to form. Many thanks also to the NACDA and NAADD leadership for their continued support and investment in the personal and professional wellbeing of the membership. I hope many others take advantage of this excellent program in the years to come."
