CLEVELAND, Ohio – The
Division 2 Conference Commissioners Association (D2 CCA) announce that
Brynn King of Roberts Wesleyan University and
Brayden Long of Slippery Rock University (SRU) have been named the 2024–25 Scholar-Athletes of the year.
King and Long, both graduates with perfect 4.0 GPAs, represent the highest standard of what it means to be a student-athlete—excelling academically, athletically, and in leadership roles on and off the field.
"Brynn and Brayden exemplify the core values of Division II athletics—passion, purpose, and performance in every facet of student life," said
Will Prewitt, Commissioner of the GAC and President of the D2 CCA. "They are not only champions in their sports, but leaders in the classroom and their communities."
Brynn King, Roberts Wesleyan
King completed one of the most decorated pole-vaulting careers in NCAA Division II history, earning her the title of 2024–25 NCAA Division II Academic All-American of the Year for Women's Track & Field and Cross Country. King won back-to-back NCAA indoor and outdoor national championships, set multiple Division II records, and became the first woman in DII history to clear 15 feet in both indoor and outdoor competition. She holds the DII record with a vault of 4.75m (15-7) set at the 2025 Texas Relays.
King capped off her historic season by qualifying for and competing in the 2024 Paris Olympics, finishing tied for 22nd while representing Team USA. She also earned First-Team All-America honors, was named the USTFCCCA National Field Athlete of the Year and received the East Coast Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Year award. King graduated with a 4.0 GPA, having previously earned a degree from Duke University in evolutionary anthropology before transferring to Roberts Wesleyan for graduate study.
Brayden Long, Slippery Rock
Long, a 2024 Slippery Rock University graduate, becomes the first football student-athlete in SRU history and the second male in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) history to earn the NCAA Division II Academic All-American of the Year honor. A two-time national finalist for the Harlon Hill Trophy and the 2024 Division II Football Academic All-America Team Member of the Year, Long led The Rock to the NCAA national semifinals a year ago and the quarterfinals in 2023, while setting multiple school records. Over two seasons as starting quarterback, Long threw for 7,527 yards and 64 touchdowns, becoming the program's all-time leader in completions and completion percentage, and second in both passing yards and touchdowns.
In the classroom, Long graduated with a 4.0 GPA in sport management, earned back-to-back PSAC Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year honors, and was named the Atlantic Region Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year. His academic and athletic excellence also earned him a spot as a finalist for the 2024 William V. Campbell Trophy, known as the "Academic Heisman."
