D2 CCA Announces 2020-21 Scholar-Athletes of the Year

CLEVELAND -- The Division 2 Conference Commissioners Association (D2 CCA) announced that Dalton Bolon (West Liberty University; Mountain East Conference) and Kendall Cornick (Augustana University; Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference) have been selected as the 2020-21 Scholar-Athletes of the Year.

Bolon, a guard for the Hilltoppers, carried a 3.85 GPA as a human biology major. Cornick, an outfielder for the Vikings, maintained a 3.94 GPA while double majoring in biology and psychology. Both Bolon and Cornick are being recognized amongst 16 regional scholar-athlete winners, selected by the D2 CCA.

"Congratulations to the D2 CCA Scholar-Athletes of the Year and regional award recipients. These individuals have not only persevered but excelled in the most difficult of educational and athletics environments," said D2 CCA President Dan Mara, commissioner of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference. " The award winners personify the ideals of Division II and will serve as amazing DII representatives as they advance in their chosen careers."

Dalton Bolon, West Liberty University
As a red shirt senior in 2020-21, Bolon shot 53% from the field, 45% from the 3-point range and 90% from the free throw line to complete a 50-40-90 season for the Hilltoppers. He was also ranked top 25 nationally in scoring with 3 FG/G, 3 FG PCT and FT PCT.

Bolon walked away this year earning the 2021 CoSIDA Academic All-American of the Year, Atlantic Region Player of the Year, consensus All-American and CoSIDA Academic All-District. His MEC honors from this past year include Player of the Year, MEC All-Academic Team and Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year.

Among Bolon's Division II career accomplishments, he took home Freshman of the Year in 2018, followed by two-time MEC Player of the Year; making him the only player in MEC history to be both the Freshman of the Year and Player of the Year throughout this career.

Kendall Cornick, Augustana University
As a senior for the Vikings this past year, Cornick batted .453 with 78 hits, making this the third highest in Division II. She also set an Augustana school record with seven RBI in a single game, while tallying 34 stolen bases, that ranked second in the nation.

On the field, she was named NSIC Kelley Scholar-Athlete of the Year, consensus First Team All-America selection, Top-15 Finalists for the Schutt NFCA National Player of the Year and earned recognition from the NFCA and D2 CCA.

Cornick also excelled in the classroom, making Dean's list every semester she was at Augustana. In addition, she was a 2020 CoSIDA Academic All-American and 2019 All-District, a NSIC Myles Brand Award winner and member of the NSIC All-Academic Team of Excellence.

Across campus, Cornick did various research that aligned with both of her majors, while also holding a leadership role in the Kidney Disease Screening and Awareness Program and serving as a Teaching Assistant. You could also find Cornick volunteering throughout the community in various ways within the medical field.
