CLEVELANDÂ
– Today, the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and its Affiliate Associations announced the cancellation of the 55
th Annual Convention, originally scheduled for June 7-10 at Mandalay Bay Resort in Las Vegas. The decision was made final by the NACDA Board of Directors in response to the COVID-19 global health crisis.
Â
"The decision to cancel the NACDA & Affiliates Convention was extremely difficult. It is not one that was taken lightly, nor was it made without exhausting all options and resources available," said
Bob Vecchione, NACDA Chief Executive Officer. "However, the health and safety of everyone affiliated with our organization will always be top priority. Over the last few weeks, as we have all observed how COVID-19 has dramatically changed our industry and our lives, we know that short-term, this is the best thing to do during this time. We admire the courage and strength our leadership and our members have shown as they work through their own challenges on campus and at home, and we appreciate your continued support of our Associations."
Â
"Although we will not be able to collectively meet this summer at the NACDA & Affiliates Convention, now more than ever is a time for us to band together and remain steadfast in our mission to serve the student-athletes to the best of our abilities," said NACDA President
Greg Byrne, director of athletics at The University of Alabama. "These are tough times for all of us, but with the support of the college athletics family, we will come out of this as stronger administrators and better people."
Â
All attendees will receive full refunds for Convention registration that will come directly from the NACDA Office.
The hotel will be cancelling all existing reservations at Mandalay Bay and Delano, and attendees can expect to see refunds for their deposits within 7-10 days.
Â
NACDA & its Affiliate Associations will be providing professional development sessions via webinars in place of the Convention beginning in the coming weeks.
