Dave Maggard - University of California Berkeley

maggardOne of the most respected leaders in intercollegiate athletics, Dave Maggard led the athletics departments at his alma mater, the University of California, the University of Miami and the University of Houston.

Maggard served 19 years at his alma mater, leading the Bears to 22 national championships and establishing endowed scholarships in 13 sports. He was instrumental in the resurgence of Cal’s football and basketball programs that yielded the university’s best record and first NCAA Tournament appearance in 30 years.

Under his direction at Houston, the Cougars improved their academic achievements, captured 20 Conference USA championships and competed on the national level. In addition, donations to the Cougar Pride fundraising arm nearly tripled and more than $5 million was spent to improve the weight room and the football, basketball, baseball, softball and track and field facilities.

While at Miami, the Hurricanes won the National Championship in football, and the baseball team finished third in the College World Series.

In between his stints at Miami and Houston, Maggard served as managing director of sports for the Atlanta Committee for the 1996 Olympic Games, in which he was an integral part of the Games being regarded as one of the best Olympic events ever.
