Madson became the second straight freshman player from the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference to win national player of the week honors after a huge offensive week for the Cougars (14-14). He averaged 38 points, 4.5 rebounds, 5.5 assists, 2.5 steals and added a blocked shot as USF split its two games, winning 119-114 in overtime over Wayne State (Neb.) and falling 104-93 at Augustana. During the week, he made 64 percent of his shots from the floor (23-of-36), including going 10-of-16 from three-point range and was 20-of-25 at the free throw line.

In the first game against Wayne State, Madson scored a career-high 45 points in 41 minutes of play as he went 14-of-18 from the field, four-of-six from beyond the arc and 13-of-17 at the line while also dishing out six assists. He had 23 points in the first half and scored eight more in overtime, including a three-pointer to start the scoring in the extra period that gave the Cougars the lead for good. On Saturday, he posted 31 points in the setback at Augustana as he was nine-of-18 from the field, six-of-10 from long range and seven-of-eight at the line; he added seven rebounds, five assists and three steals. He was named as Player of the Week in the NSIC's South Division.
