2026-27 McLendon Leadership Initiative: Preparing the Next Generation of Sports Leaders
The McLendon Foundation is now accepting applications from host organizations for the 2026-27 class of McLendon Fellows, marking the 7th cohort of the McLendon Leadership Initiative (MLI). Rooted in the legacy and values of John McLendon, the Initiative positions the McLendon Foundation as a launch pad and talent exchange, connecting emerging professionals with athletics departments, conferences, and sports organizations seeking prepared early career talent.
"This program is about access paired with accountability," said Adrien Harraway, Executive Director of the McLendon Foundation. "We focus on preparing individuals from all backgrounds with the tools, experience, and support needed to succeed."
Why Become a Host Organization
Hosting a McLendon Fellow provides organizations with access to motivated, prepared early career talent while contributing to the development of future leaders.
The McLendon Foundation partners with Prodigy Search to manage a structured recruitment and selection process that aligns each host organization with top tier candidates. Fellows bring fresh perspective, added capacity, and a strong commitment to growth and contribution.
Who the Program Serves
The McLendon Leadership Initiative is open to individuals from all backgrounds who have earned a bachelor's degree and aspire to build a career in sports.
Fellows are selected based on character, leadership potential, initiative, and alignment with Coach McLendon's values. The program welcomes candidates with diverse experiences and pathways, recognizing that strong leadership in sports is strengthened through inclusive opportunity and broad representation.
Fellowship Experience
McLendon Fellows are placed within athletics departments, conferences, or sports organizations for a 10- or 12-month professional experience. Fellows work full time in functional areas aligned with their interests and career goals while receiving mentorship, professional development programming, and access to the McLendon national network. The experience emphasizes real world responsibility, leadership exposure, and career readiness.
