CLEVELAND –TheÂ
Division I-AAA Athletics Directors Association (DI-AAA ADA) is proud to announce the members of the 22nd Annual Scholar-Athlete Team. In addition, the association selected a men's and women's scholar-athlete of the year and two postgraduate scholarship recipients.Â
"We are so excited to recognize and congratulate this year's men's and women's scholar-athlete teams," stated Division I-AAA ADA President, Director of Athletics at the?University of North Carolina Asheville,Janet R. Cone." We are fortunate to honor such deserving scholars, in addition to providing the postgraduate scholarship awards. The time and effort these aspiring individuals dedicate to their sport and our universities is a testament to their work ethic both in the classroom and on the court."Â
Basketball players from all Division I-AAA ADA member institutions are eligible for these prestigious annual awards. Each of the nominees is required to maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.20 (4.00 scale) in undergraduate study and have been a starter or important reserve with legitimate athletics credentials. Nominees must have participated in at least 50 percent of the team's games listed on the nomination form. To be eligible for nomination to the Scholar-Athlete Team, individuals must have reached junior academic standing at their respective institution (ineligible athletics transfers are not eligible).Â
Scholar-Athletes of the YearÂ
Additionally, one male and one female student-athlete are annually selected as the Division I-AAA ADA Scholar-Athletes of the Year. This year, both the male and female recipients are from Belmont University, Tessa Miller and Isaiah Walker.Â
Miller is a junior legal studies major with a 3.98 GPA. She is also minoring in business administration and corporate communication. She started all 31 games, averaging 14.4 points, 6.4 rebounds and 3.2 assists per game. Miller was also a two-time Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) Scholar-Athlete selection, CSC Academic All-District member and was received the State Farm MVC Good Neighbor Award.Â
Walker is also a junior, majoring in business administration with a 3.78 GPA. Walker played in all 33 games, starting 23, averaging 5.9 points and 4.8 rebounds. He is a two-time MVC Scholar-Athlete team member. Walker is also a Belmont Student-Athlete Advisory Committee member, VP of compliance, MVC SAAC member and MVC SAAC Diversity, Equity and Inclusion committee member. Â
Postgraduate Scholarship RecipientsÂ
Carrying on the Belmont theme is Tuti Jones, a senior sport administration major with a minor in nutrition carries a 3.95 GPA and is a recipient of a $5,000 scholarship for her postgraduate studies. Jones started all 31 games, averaging 11.2 points, 4.2 rebounds, 4.2 assists and 2.4 steals per game. She is also a MVC Scholar-Athlete and was awarded the MVC Commissioner's Excellence Award. Â
Creighton University's Ryan Kalkbrenner is the $5,000 postgraduate scholarship recipient on the men's side. Kalkbrenner is a graduate student that is studying sports leadership with a 3.59 GPA. He started every game this season, averaging 17.2 points and 7.3 rebounds. He was also a three-time BIG EAST All-Academic Team nominee. Â
