AUGUSTA, GA -- Nick Brenegan's record-breaking week resulted in yet another award as the Carson-Newman (Tennessee) guard was named the Men's Basketball Division II Player of the Week by the D2CIDA. The junior from Greenville, S.C., set the NCAA Division II record for 3-pointers made in a game with 18 in a win over Newberry, setting a South Atlantic Conference record with 64 points in the game.
Brenegan hit 21-of-34 total shots, including 18-of-27 3-pointers, and all four of his free throw attempts. The 64 points is the most in a single game in NCAA Division II this season – by 15 points – and the most in all three NCAA Divisions. He averaged 35.5 points per game over two games for Carson-Newman on the week, shooting 57 percent from the field and 61 percent from long range, adding 3.5 rebounds per game.
Brenegan leads NCAA Division II in made 3-pointers per game and is second in the SAC in scoring at 20.7 points per contest. He also leads the conference in 3-point field goal percentage.
