Shippensburg's Jones Named D2CIDA Women's Basketball Division II Player of the Week

AUGUSTA, GA -- Shippensburg University's Ariel Jones was named the Women's Basketball Division II Player of the Week by D2CIDA. The senior guard from Lebanon, Pa., had one of the more remarkable weeks of any player this season, averaging 32 points per game in three wins.

She started her week by setting a new PSAC record with 51 points on 15-for-25 shooting against Millersville. That total also made her the PSAC career scoring leader, becoming only the 12th player in Division II history to score 2,500 career points. It is also the most points scored in a single game in NCAA Division II this season; she also holds the second spot with a 48-point outing earlier this season.

She followed that with 18 points in only 28 minutes on the floor in a blowout win over Shepherd, then had 27 points and eight rebounds in a win at Lock Haven. For the week, she shot 47 percent from the field, 41 percent from 3-point range and hit 29-of-31 free throws (.935). She added 6.7 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 2.3 steals per game.

Jones is the NCAA Division II active career scoring leader and leads the nation with 24.4 points per game.

The Division II Player of the Week is selected by the Division II Conference Information Directors Association (D2CIDA). See all of this seasons' winners here.
