North Georgia's Champion Named D2CIDA Division II Men's Basketball Player of the Week

AUGUSTA, GA -- University of North Georgia's (UNG) Frank Champion has been named the Division II Men's Basketball Player of the Week by the D2CIDA. The junior from Lithonia, Ga., averaged 26.6 points over three games last week for the 10th-ranked Nighthawks, adding 9.3 rebounds and 7.7 assists per game.

The 2022 PBC Player of the Year, Champion had two double-doubles in his first two games with 26 points and 12 rebounds in a win over Tusculum, just missing a triple-double as he finished with nine assists. He then scored 24 points with 10 rebounds in a loss to Saint Leo before finishing with 30 points, six rebounds and six assists in a win over No. 25 Florida Southern.

Champion shot 63 percent from the field and added 3.0 blocks and 2.0 steals per game. He is tied for the top spot in NCAA Division II with five double-doubles on the season. He is also ranked fifth in the nation in assists per game, 17th in points per game, 18th in blocks per game and 35th in rebounds per game. He becomes the first PBC men's basketball player to win the D2CIDA national award.
