AUGUSTA, GA -- Upper Iowa University graduate guard Jake Hilmer has been named the first men's basketball Division II Player of the Week by the D2CIDA for the 2023-24 season. Hilmer claims his third national honor since the program began in 2022.
The graduate student from Walker, Iowa, averaged 34.5 points per game in the Peacocks' first two games. He scored 30 points with three rebounds and two assists in a loss to Northern Michigan, then exploded for 39 points in a win over Michigan Tech. He hit 9-for-17 from the field in that game and was 18-for-18 from the foul line. In the two games combined, he hit 26-of-27 free throws while shooting 49 percent from the field. He leads the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) in scoring.
