AUGUSTA, GA -- Delta State's Maalik Cartwright was named the Division II Men's Basketball Player of the Week by the D2CIDA. The junior forward from Holly Grove, Ark., had an outstanding week, averaging 36.5 points per game in two wins for the Statesmen.
He scored a career-high 45 points in a seven-point win over Christian Brothers. That amount is the fourth-highest single-game total in DSU school history, the second-highest in the Gulf South Conference this season and tied for fifth-highest in NCAA Division II. He began his week with 28 points in a 75-71 overtime win against Union, adding seven rebounds and seven assists.
For the week, Cartwright shot 58 percent (31-of-53) from the floor with 6.0 rebounds, 5.5 assists and 2.0 steals per game. He leads the GSC in scoring, is second in field goal percentage and ninth in rebounding. He also moved into 17th place in DSU career scoring with 1,117 points.
