DI-AAA ADA Announces 2022 Scholar-Athlete Awards Winners

CLEVELAND – The Division I-AAA Athletics Directors Association (DI-AAA ADA) is proud to announce the members of theARMS_RM.png 20th Annual Scholar-Athlete Team, presented by ARMS Software. In addition, the association selected a men's and women's scholar-athlete of the year and two postgraduate scholarship recipients.
 
"On behalf of the Division I-AAA Athletics Directors Association, I am excited to congratulate this year's men's and women's scholar-athlete teams as well as those selected to receive postgraduate scholarship awards," stated Division I-AAA 2nd Vice President, I-AAA Scholar-Athlete Team Selection Committee Chair and Director of Athletics at the University of San Francisco, Joan McDermott. "These individuals demonstrate excellence on and off the court, and we commend the dedication they have shown to effectively navigate the demanding student-athlete experience."

Basketball players from all Division I-AAA ADA member institutions are eligible for these prestigious annual awards. Each of the nominees is required to maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.20 (4.00 scale) in undergraduate study and have been a starter or important reserve with legitimate athletics credentials. Nominees must have participated in at least 50 percent of the team's games listed on the nomination form. To be eligible for nomination to the Scholar-Athlete Team, individuals must have reached junior academic standing at their respective institution (ineligible athletics transfers are not eligible).

Additionally, one male and one female student-athlete are annually selected as the Division I-AAA ADA Scholar-Athletes of the Year. This year's female honoree is Conley Chinn, a pre-medical psychology major with a 4.0 GPA from Belmont University. Receiving this year's male honor is Max Abmas, a mathematics major with a 3.7 GPA from Oral Roberts University.

Chinn and Gibson Jimerson, an international business major carrying a 3.9 GPA at Saint Louis University, have been selected as the 2022 DI-AAA ADA Postgraduate Scholarship recipients. Each will receive $5,000 towards postgraduate studies.

A special review committee of Division I-AAA Athletics Directors was responsible for selecting the winners. The 2022 Review Committee consisted of Joan McDermott (committee chair), University of San Francisco; Chasse Conque, UTRGV; Irma Garcia, St. Francis College; Phil Hutcheson, Lipscomb University; Robert Lineburg, Radford University; Marianne Reilly, Manhattan College; and Kenneth Siegfried, CSU Bakersfield.
