Lindsay Lettow of the University of Central Missouri
(Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association) and Micah Davis
of Delta State University (Gulf South Conference) have been named
the top female and male Division II Scholar-Athletes of the Year by
the Division II Conference Commissioners Association (DII CCA).
Earlier this month, 16 regional scholar-athlete award winners
were selected by the DII CCA. Lettow and Davis were named from this
field of eight women’s regional winners and eight men’s
regional winners.
In the thirteen year history of this award, Lettow gives the
MIAA its third national award winner while Davis is the GSC’s
fourth winner.
"As a commissioner I am so proud of the student-athletes
who have achieved so much and who we are able to recognize as DII
CCA Scholar-Athletes," said Steve Murray, commissioner of the
Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference and president of the DII
CCA. "These fine men and women truly exemplify the balanced
student-athlete experience which is a hallmark of Division
II."
Lettow, a track and field student-athlete, won the NCAA Division
II Indoor pentathlon national championship with an all-time NCAA
Division II record score of 4,193 points, breaking her own record
which she set as a junior. She earned Indoor All-America honors in
the long jump and was named USTFCCCA Indoor Female Athlete of the
Year for the second straight year and the 2012 USTFCCCA South
Central Region Outdoor Female Field Athlete of the Year. The
Urbandale, IA native will be a 2012 MIAA Scholar Athlete Award
Winner and MIAA Academic Honor Roll member. Lettow was also awarded
the NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship among other honors. Majoring in
Psychology with a minor in Spanish, Lindsay carries a 3.84 GPA.
Davis was an integral part of the DSU Football team in his
career. In 2011 alone, he threw for 3,788 yards and 23 touchdowns
and rushed for another 13 while completing 319 of 524 pass
attempts. In his career, Davis led DSU to a 2010 NCAA National
Championship appearance, received the NCAA Elite 88 Award at the
2010 Division II Football Championship, he was a national finalist
for the Harlon Hill Trophy, the DII National Player of the Year
Award and the Conerly Trophy, which is presented annually to
Mississippi’s top collegiate football player. The
Wesson Mississippi native was named the Gulf South Conference
Offensive Player of the Year and First Team All-GSC. Academically,
Davis was named to the GSC All-Academic team and Honor Roll as well
as the CoSIDA Region VI Academic Team. He was also a National
Football Foundation Academic All-American. The Chemisty, Biology,
Pre-Med major, with a 4.0 GPA, received a $25,000 post-graduate
scholarship from the National Football Foundation.
