Feb. 10, 2009
Cleveland, Ohio - The National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) have announced a seven-year partnership that begins immediately, and culminates when the two associations convene at the Orlando World Center Marriott Resort for their 2013, 2014 and 2015 conventions.
Although the two associations won't meet jointly until 2013 due to previous hotel commitments, CoSIDA will have a "seat at the table" beginning in 2009, with the CoSIDA leadership meeting with the NACDA leadership at its annual Mid-Winter Meetings. Over the next few years, CoSIDA officers will have the opportunity to meet with the NACDA leadership to discuss industry trends, which is similar to what the 11 other associations managed under the NACDA umbrella have the opportunity to do.
Beginning immediately, CoSIDA will have a page in Athletics Administration, NACDA's magazine that is published eight times a year, which is devoted to its Associations; will have NACDA Web site visibility; and a separate category header in the NACDA Daily Review. Also, both associations will have the opportunity to address the board of directors/executive committee of the other association.
"We are excited that the two associations have joined together for the common good of their members," stated NACDA President Joan Cronan, women's athletics director at the University of Tennessee. "NACDA serves as the professional association for those in the field of intercollegiate athletics administration and this hybrid partnership with CoSIDA was a natural fit in the Association's continued mission of providing educational opportunities and serving as a vehicle for networking, the exchanges of information and advocacy on behalf of the profession."
With this partnership, CoSIDA would continue to run its association and convention independently of NACDA, but would move to the site of NACDA's Convention beginning in 2013.
The move would allow NACDA and CoSIDA members to interact at one common site and discuss issues and share ideas that may not have previously been discussed by both sides on a national level. This partnership opens up the lines of communication and allows the associations to compose joint task forces; cross-over panelists, topics and sessions; and unparalleled networking opportunities for both sides.
"CoSIDA looks forward to partnering with NACDA in a unique hybrid relationship which will benefit both associations," said CoSIDA President Nick Joos, senior associate athletic director/external affairs at Baylor University. "This partnership will afford all CoSIDA members tremendous professional development opportunities while at the same time enhancing CoSIDA's visibility and brand within the intercollegiate athletics community.
"I would publicly like to thank the NACDA leadership team, and especially President Joan Cronan, for their sincere efforts in extending this invitation to CoSIDA," he added. "We believe this partnership will benefit not only CoSIDA, but all of NACDA's affiliated organizations and intercollegiate athletics as a whole by bringing all key management groups together to serve and educate each other."
